Hungry Women

Melissa Maney’s "Hungry Women" has a fascinating premise: what would the world be like if there were no men? Obviously, things would be different, but would they be any better? However, the play attempts to be too many things: a critique of Victorian marriage, a sci-fi play set in the future, a socio-political drama, a totalitarian power play. Divided in three parts (“Hungry Women,” “Curious Women” and “Scared Women”), the play seems to be three different one acts as the styles and tones change in each. Daniella Caggiano’s direction is superb except for a great deal of shouting in the third and last scene. However, she does not help unify the play into a coherent whole. [more]
