Parsons Dance: Spring 2025 Season

Six quite diverse works made up the program, four by Parsons and two by guest artists (Robert Battle and Rita Butler) who pushed the dancers to their limits. The guest choreographers worked the company in ways that challenged them after being used to Parsons’ style, which is a witty combination of ballet and modern dance, most particularly the modern dance exemplified by the late Paul Taylor with whom Parsons notably danced for a number of years. Houses on the Moon Theater Company’s delightful and earnest mission is to “dispel ignorance and isolation through the theatrical amplification of unheard voices.” "The Santa Closet," another one-man show written and performed by the company’s co-founder Jeffrey Solomon, doesn’t reach the lofty goals of some of his other plays; however, the newly updated, tenth-year anniversary production of this frothy, zany tale is nevertheless aloft with quite a few grins and chuckles. Limón Dance Company: Spring 2017 Season

“Corvidae,” Colin Connor’s contribution to the program, was staged to the relentless first movement of a Philip Glass Violin Concerto. The title refers to the scientific name of the family of crows and ravens. The six dancers, stylishly dressed in all black outfits by Connor and Keiko Voltaire and moodily lit by DK Kroth, wandered about stylishly, but aimlessly, suddenly bursting into movement, softly leaping, arms held in wing-like positions. The heads of stationary dancers were held high in ornithological awareness as the rest of the cast softly cut through the air in balletic, sweeping steps. The overall mood was dark and sexy. [more]
